A reliable power bank for travel keeps your phone, earbuds, camera and other USB-powered devices ready when outlets are unavailable. The best travel power bank should be compact enough to carry easily, provide enough capacity for your trip and meet the battery restrictions that apply to air travel.
Choose the Right Power Bank for Travel
A small travel power bank is ideal when portability matters more than maximum battery capacity.
The Avepower K188 5000mAh Mini Power Bank weighs approximately 95g and includes a built-in USB-C connector and integrated 8-pin charging cable, reducing the number of accessories you need to pack.
The Avepower 006 5000mAh Power Bank weighs approximately 102g and measures just 13mm thick, making it a practical portable charger for travelers who want lightweight emergency power.
Can You Take a Travel Power Bank on a Plane?
Under current IATA lithium battery guidance, power banks must be carried in carry-on baggage rather than checked luggage. Current 2026 international guidance generally limits power banks to 100Wh or less and limits passengers to two power banks.
- Up to 100Wh: Generally suitable for carry-on, subject to airline rules.
- Over 100Wh: Restrictions increase; do not assume it is permitted.
- Over 160Wh: Generally prohibited on passenger aircraft.
- Checked luggage: Power banks are not permitted.
- Quantity: Current IATA/ICAO guidance limits passengers to two power banks.
Under current international guidance, passengers must not recharge the power bank itself during flight, and airlines may also restrict using it to charge other devices onboard.
What Size Power Bank Is Best for Airline Travel?
For most travelers, 5,000mAh to 20,000mAh provides a practical balance between portability and battery capacity while typically remaining below the common 100Wh limit.
For example, a typical 5,000mAh lithium battery at 3.7V contains about 18.5Wh, while a typical 20,000mAh battery at 3.7V contains about 74Wh.
These are calculation examples, not substitutes for the rating printed on the product. Always use the actual Wh value shown on the power bank when checking airline eligibility.

International Travel Has Additional Restrictions
International travelers should check both the airline and destination-country rules before packing a power bank.
Passengers taking domestic flights within mainland China face an additional requirement: since June 28, 2025, power banks without a clear valid CCC/3C marking, with an unclear marking, or belonging to recalled models or batches are prohibited on domestic flights.
This rule applies specifically to mainland China domestic flights and is separate from the normal Wh capacity limit.
